Apostolic Constitutions and Transubstantiation

Q. Did the Constitutions of the Holy Apostles advocate the Roman dogma of transubstantiation?

 

Constitutions of the Holy Apostles [Apostolic Constitutions] (c. 375-390 A.D.):

And when He had delivered to us the representative [αντίτυπα] mysteries of His precious body and blood (Philip Schaff, ANF, Vol. VII, Constitutions of the Holy Apostles, Bk. V, § III, n. XIV). Here

 

Instead of a bloody sacrifice, He has appointed that reasonable and unbloody mystical one of His body and blood, which is performed to represent the death of the Lord by symbols [συμβόλων]. (Philip Schaff, ANF, Vol. VII, Constitutions of the Holy Apostles, Bk. VI. § IV, n. XXIII). Here

 

Offer the acceptable Eucharist, the representation [αντίτυπον] of the royal body of Christ. (Schaff, Philip, ANF, Vol. VII, Constitutions of the Holy Apostles, Bk. VI, § VI n. XXX). Here

 

We also, our Father, thank Thee for the precious blood of Jesus Christ, which was shed for us and for His precious body, whereof we celebrate this representation [αντίτυπα], as Himself appointed us, “to show forth His death.” (Philip Schaff, ANF, Vol. VII, Constitutions of the Holy Apostles, Bk VII, § II, n.
